If It Is Important To You

How many people sit thinking about things we should be doing, or things that we want to do but never quite get round to doing it. How many people start something but don’t keep up with it or have any consistency with it? Whether it be going to the gym, Blogging, learning a new skill, starting up a business; there always seems to be something that we think about doing, we like the idea of it and we may even take steps to start, but never stay consistent or follow it through. 

I have come to realise that if something is important to you, you will find a way. Whether it be sacrificing some sleep, sacrificing time when you would usually be relaxing or doing something else, you can find a way – IF it is important to you. And it is ok to concede that something just isn’t a priority for you. Just because somebody else is doing it, or you like the idea of it, it simply may not be a priority for you. And that is ok, everybody is different and just because somebody else is doing something that you like the idea of, if it isn’t important to you then it is unlikely to be a priority and you are unlikely to make/find the time for it.

As regular readers of my blog will know, exercise and fitness is important to me. I have previously written blogs about how I have had to adapt my training since having a child, and I have had to make time – often training when my son has gone to bed in the evening. Some people say to me “wow I wish I had your discipline”. Well I don’t really feel like I have to be disciplined, because I actually enjoy working out, I enjoy eating well and tracking what I eat. It is important to me so I make time for it. I have had friends say to me that they would love for me to put them a diet and workout plan together, which I would love to do and was keen to do. But when it comes down to it they didn’t want to put in the work. And that is absolutely fine – not everybody has the same priorities. If it was important to them then they would put in the time and effort. They have other things in their life that are priorities for them personally, everyone is different and it is important to identify what your priorities are.

We all have the same 24 hours in a day; we do not have an endless supply of time and so it is important to prioritise what is important to you. Stop looking at what other people are doing and thinking that you should be doing it too, just because they are. If you like the look of what they are doing, if it is something that you want to do, then do it! If it is important to you, you will do it. If you are doing it just because somebody else is doing it you won’t stay consistent because your heart won’t be in it.

Find out what is important to you, make time for it, prioritise it, and make things happen.

    1. Wow 60lb!! Well done you! πŸ™‚ I lost 31 lbs a couple of years ago and just fell in love with fitness. It isn’t about losing weight anymore, it’s about a lifestyle and setting new goals to accomplish πŸ™‚ your blog looks great πŸ™‚

        I couldn’t agree a more. I believe that it is not a ‘weight loss’ but a change in lifestyle that will bring long lasting results. Isn’t it amazing to see all the things your body is able to do. I also love challenging myself to become the strongest and healthiest me I can be.
